I travel all over the West Midlands and beyond for my work. I take pictures when out running, cycling, walking. I see so much I'd like to keep a record.

We've travelled all over in our VW campervan - I'm not a photographer, but I hope I can capture just a little of what I see. Exmoor Ponies graze in amongst the heather, there is a large herd living wild in the huge Sutton Park in Sutton Coldfield.

Exmoor Ponies living wild in Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield. Mid week in the morning I found this large herd all together. Usually they hid in the cover of the trees when people are about.

It was time for the mobile Farrier to visit the stable yard yesterday, with a small gas fired kiln in his van he heats the horseshoes and shapes them on the anvil. Coming every 6 weeks this is an ongoing cost of Horse and Pony ownership. here are pics from the last farriers visit http://vwcampervan-aldridge.tumblr.com/search/farrier

Exmoor ponies wonder wild in Sutton Park, they keep away from the paths and popular areas normally but midweek there was no one there. Their grazing helps maintain the forest, keeping ground cover down.

Walking along the Canal in Rushall, we saw these lovely ponies grazing with new foals. Notice how the foal and mare in the fore ground have almost the same marking as the foal and mare in the background.

Down on the farm - Part 1 - A visit from the mobile Farrier, some horses needed new shoes , some just needed a hoof trimming and polish! A nail salon for horses. The van has a small furnace gas heated and various blank horseshoes, the farrier quickly trims and shapes the hoof which is solid like a nail, heats then shapes the new shoe to fit, nailing it in place.

Down on the farm - Part 2 - The horses are untroubled by the attention of the farrier. Here, Sparky gets all new shoes and stand patiently while the work is done. Another horse had shoes for the first time and was untroubled by all the fuss, the smoke that comes off the hoof when the shoe is tried for size didn’t worry them at all. They put their hooves onto stands to allow better access for filing. They looked smart and clean when done - they had a new spring in their step!

This time of year New Forest ponies are getting ready to foal, next time we go in May we’ll see delightful wild foals in the woods and right down on the salt marshes of the Solent. Walking in the New Forest the partridges and pheasants are flying about everywhere, we were still suprised to find a herd of Alpaca in a fenced off field, fluffy faced LLamas bred for their wool
